Summer in Texas can be very hot, and when it gets really hot, you might want to turn up the air conditioning. But did you know that using too much energy can cause your electricity bill to go up, and cause a strain on the grid, especially if thousands of others are doing the same? That’s why it’s important to find ways to stay comfortable while conserving energy, and avoid having to experience rolling blackouts.
Here are some tips to help you manage your energy use during Texas heatwaves:
- Set your thermostat to 78 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. This might seem warm, but it will help save energy and keep your bill low.
- Use fans to circulate the air in your home. Fans don’t use as much energy as air conditioning, and they can make you feel cooler.
- Keep your blinds or curtains closed during the day. This can help keep the sun from heating up your home, which means you won’t need to use as much air conditioning.
- Use appliances, like the oven and dishwasher, in the morning or at night when it’s cooler. This will help keep your home from getting too hot during the day.
- Take cool showers or baths to help lower your body temperature.
- Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics, like cotton or linen.
By following these tips, you can stay comfortable during Texas heatwaves while also conserving energy and saving money on your electricity bill.
